One thing that would be great for me to have steered myself against doing is being a nice, agreeable, not overreacting American who doesn't want to rock the boat. I should have gotten out of the car as soon as he bugged me to sit in front. I knew that was wrong of him, but thought that acting slightly clueless as to his intention and clearly NOT interested, would discourage him. After that, we were on ring roads or other expressways (still not sure where all he drove to) and the fact that there was no traffic (ramadan, near magrib) meant that he didn't have to slow down or anything. I felt very trapped and very helpless.

I feel I was too passive from the start, and too shaken at the end to think to take his information, which galls me to this day. I wonder if my being more aggressive would have gotten me home sooner or gotten me hurt? I was truly scared-I didn't know what he was capable of. I think he should be in jail because I was not the first woman he did that to-and its probably against just the taxi rules to take people that far out of the way!
